Words written by Daniel Savin, St. Mary’s College Youth Ambassador.
On Friday 10th November, students from St Ambrose, St Anselm’s and St Mary’s Colleges attended an Edmund Rice Youth Ambassadors Day at Woodeaves. 8 ambassadors were present and participated in sessions on human trafficking and the issue of homelessness. The day, led by Tom Murray and Ann Nichols, also allowed for discussion of the meaning of advocacy and ways to improve our work in schools to highlight the problems that we can help in our work. Notable ideas included running a ‘Question Time’ session with schools across the network and running student-led PSHE days for younger years. The day proved invaluable as a chance to meet other ambassadors and hear from experienced advocates, serving as motivation to do more in our schools and in the wider community. The Geneva trip was also discussed and all the ambassadors were excited at the prospect of spending time at the UN and seeing the work of ERI on a larger scale.
O God, we thank you for the life of Edmund Rice.
He opened his heart to Christ present in those oppressed by poverty and injustice.
May we follow his example of faith and generosity.
Grant us the courage and compassion of Edmund as we seek to live lives of love and service.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
