The Edmund Rice Office organised a day trip for the clients accessing ESOL and other services at SERV. After they had been looking at an article on slavery, they had expressed an interest in visiting the museums in Liverpool to learn more about it from the slavery museum.
A day trip was suggested and organised. After a short coach journey we all met in Liverpool with Ann and Roisin. We looked around both the Maritime and Waterfront museums. There was a quiz with 2 pages of questions to find the answers to at the museums, this was completed enthusiastically! Fatemeh was the winner and has a lovely prize of Liverpool souvenirs.
We had lunch at the museum cafe and we must thank them for organising this so beautifully. All day-trippers also received a kind present of a bag of Liverpool goodies from the Tourist Information Office which went down very well!
Everyone had a wonderful day and learned so much. as asylum seekers, money id very tight and they would never usually have the opportunity of a fun day out. it was very much appreciated and Roisin and I had a wonderful day with Br.s Jim, Ger and all our friends.
O God, we thank you for the life of Edmund Rice.
He opened his heart to Christ present in those oppressed by poverty and injustice.
May we follow his example of faith and generosity.
Grant us the courage and compassion of Edmund as we seek to live lives of love and service.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
