‘Tastes of Home’ – An advocacy project organised by Edmund Rice England
Inspired by a book we saw at the UN in Geneva, we are going to put together a recipe book compiled from favourite and typical dishes shared by those seeking asylum and refugees we work with at Asylum Link Merseyside and Serv in Salford.
The idea is to share recipes which remind people of home. We will include anecdotes of why and where this dish is eaten and the importance of sharing food together.
Costs of recipes and any difficulty in obtaining ingredients will also be included to highlight the economic hardship experienced by asylum seekers on the paltry allowance they receive.
With help from the teachers at ALM and Serv we will compile the information and invite contributors to send photos of themselves, their families and the food.
From our Edmund Rice International groups in schools and via the school network we will elicit contributions of funding and sponsorship.
All sales from the finished books will go directly to aiding ALM and Serv.

O God, we thank you for the life of Edmund Rice.
He opened his heart to Christ present in those oppressed by poverty and injustice.
May we follow his example of faith and generosity.
Grant us the courage and compassion of Edmund as we seek to live lives of love and service.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
