‘Over the past few weeks, my classmates and I have begun working towards our Edmund Rice Award. During this time, we learned about human rights, homelessness and the work of Blessed Edmund Rice. Also, I was lucky enough to be chosen (along with four other pupils) to talk to UN officials in Brussels about human rights, particularly the rights of children. This was such a privilege and something that I will always remember. I like to think that some of the things we said will help to influence the decisions made by world leaders in the future.’ (Sophie)
‘Taking part in the ER Awards is a fantastic opportunity. We have enjoyed discussing the needs of our community; whilst also thinking about issues affecting people around the globe. My favourite part was talking about different social justice issues as it really made me think. Another highlight was working outdoors in our school grounds planting trees, building bee hotels and installing bird boxes – it was great fun!’ (Shreya)
O God, we thank you for the life of Edmund Rice.
He opened his heart to Christ present in those oppressed by poverty and injustice.
May we follow his example of faith and generosity.
Grant us the courage and compassion of Edmund as we seek to live lives of love and service.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
