Edmund Rice England - Presence . Compassion . Liberation

Edmund Rice primary schools are encouraged to run the Edmund Rice Awards with Year 6 pupils each year. These awards were established in 1994 to encourage young people to respond to the needs of their community in the spirit of Edmund Rice.

Benefits of the Awards:

  • Allow students to undertake voluntary service in a safe, structured environment
  • Offer opportunity for reflection and spiritual development
  • Provide an insight into the Edmund Rice ethos and understanding of a student’s and school’s role in the Edmund Rice family
  • Expose pupils to a wide range of social justice issues
  • Create an opportunity to work independently as well as part of a group
  • Supports the network in various youth development projects
  • Offers an opportunity for involvement in Network activities

    Usually run in the spring term, a. member of the office team delivers 8 sessions and supports student outreach work. Each student receives a workbook and certificate on completion.

    Prayer of Thanks for Blessed Edmund Rice

    O God, we thank you for the life of Edmund Rice.
    He opened his heart to Christ present in those oppressed by poverty and injustice.
    May we follow his example of faith and generosity.
    Grant us the courage and compassion of Edmund as we seek to live lives of love and service.
    We ask this through Christ our Lord.
