Edmund Rice England - Presence . Compassion . Liberation

St Joseph’s Preparatory School

At St Joseph’s Preparatory School, this term, the children have been focusing on preparing for Easter and coming up with a range of Lenten activities. There is always a variety of stalls from each class, and I am sure that this will continue to raise a substantial amount for charity.

Alongside of our Lenten activities, the children have started to prepare their own class Liturgies, which will be shared with the whole school. Previously these have been organised by our Chaplaincy team and have been inspiring and though provoking, so now we are passing the spiritual baton onto the classes to share their thoughts and prayers with the rest of the school community.

I would like to say a big thank you to Ann Nichols, who has started to join us here working alongside Mr Gilchrist-Hawke and myself in preparing and encouraging Prep 6 as they continue on their journey with the Edmund Rice Awards. Prep 6 are currently very active in finalising the details for our project, which will involve working with our local community in a range of areas, which include, food banks and engaging with the elder members of the community. Yet again the children are showing enthusiasm for this project, and I look forward to letting you know how this goes in the summer magazine.

We at St Joseph’s Prep have also this term said our goodbyes to Mrs Edwards, who has been our bursar for over 15 years. We wish Mrs Edwards all the very best in her new job and pray that God continues to be with her.

As we move through the season of Lent remember this quotation from, Psalm 33: 20-22

“We wait in hope for the LORD; he is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. May your unfailing love rest upon us, O LORD, even as we put our hope in you.”

Prayer of Thanks for Blessed Edmund Rice

O God, we thank you for the life of Edmund Rice.
He opened his heart to Christ present in those oppressed by poverty and injustice.
May we follow his example of faith and generosity.
