Runnymede St Edward’s Catholic Primary School

This term we have rolled out the new ‘To Know You More Clearly’ pilot to our EYFS and Year 1 pupils to great success.  We have collaborated with other local schools to complete exciting planning for his term.

EYFS
The Religious Education Curriculum is at the heart of our teaching and learning in Reception. The children have thoroughly enjoyed hearing and retelling the special stories from the Bible. Each branch of the curriculum has enriched the children’s understanding of God and the awe and wonder of God’s presence in their young lives.

Year One – To know You More Clearly –Year 1
During our topics ‘From Galilee to Jerusalem’ and ‘From Desert to Garden’ we have enjoyed listening to, and re-enacting, the scripture we have heard.  We have enjoyed learning about celebrations such as Candlemas and Lent. We have particularly enjoyed taking part in creative activities linked to our new learning. Here are some quotes from Year One.

Some examples of our learning:
We designed our own Candles and reflected on how Jesus is a light for us all and how we can be like Jesus and be a light within our families and community.

We heard about the call of the disciples and made our own boats and re-enacted the story.

We made cut-outs of Jesus when he welcomed the little children. “Let the children come to me”, said Jesus. We know that he loves us.

We listened to the story of Zacchaeus and though about good choices and bad choices and played the ‘thumbs up, thumbs down’ game.

Friday 2^nd February marked the day of Candlemas. We held a collective worship together in which we remembered the significance of this day. We also got to light some of our candles.

Each one of us in class made a Lenten promise – something that we are going to try to do during the season of Lent to remember the sacrifices that Jesus had made. We made these into paper chains to show that we should try our best not to break our promises. 

We made our own palms and re-enacted the story of Jesus entering Jerusalem on a donkey

The new curriculum has proved to be very exciting and really has enriched the learning journey of our Young Edwardians.
