Early in the new term it was great to welcome new staff from across our schools’ network in England to our Formation Day. This day offers those new to our schools an opportunity to learn about the heritage of our Christian Brothers educational establishments here and around the world, the life of Blessed Edmund and how his charism is lived out today across the world. Staff explored what the Eight Essentials are and how they are lived, they learned of the numerous opportunities afforded to them as one of Edmund’s people. We encouraged them, whenever possible, to say ‘yes’ to these opportunities. Participants particularly enjoyed meeting Brother Ger O’Connell who told them of his path as a Brother in his wonderful, inimitable style; he has people laughing one moment and crying the next! Our participants enjoyed the welcome they were offered and also felt inspired and motivated to get involved in our Edmund Rice family. We hope we planted seeds on that day and that these will continue to germinate. ‘Have courage the good seeds will grow.’
O God, we thank you for the life of Edmund Rice.
He opened his heart to Christ present in those oppressed by poverty and injustice.
May we follow his example of faith and generosity.
Grant us the courage and compassion of Edmund as we seek to live lives of love and service.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
