Edmund Rice England - Presence . Compassion . Liberation

New Staff Formation

On 24 September we welcomed almost 30 new staff to our office and to the College for our autumn term induction day ‘A Call to Participation’. We began with coffee and pastries at the house so that new staff would be familiar with our base and then headed to the College who kindly provided us with a large space to hold the day.

We were delighted at the knowledge and interaction of the participants.  They gelled well as a group, really got to grips with Edmund’s story, the mission of the wider Network, they were excited and inspired by their new schools and keen to be involved as ‘Edmund’s people’. It was particularly nice to meet Tom McNulty, newly appointed at St Ambrose College who is a former Iona Prep student and who’s dad still teaches there. Ger joined us in the afternoon and was a big hit, as ever, with the new staff. It is so important that they hear from a ‘real’ brother.

We were very pleased with how the day went.

Participants in their feedback said they felt:

‘well-informed’

‘fired up to teach again’,

‘part of something much bigger and more exciting than they had imaged’

‘warmly welcomed.’

Prayer

Prayer of Thanks for Blessed Edmund Rice

O God, we thank you for the life of Edmund Rice.
He opened his heart to Christ present in those oppressed by poverty and injustice.
May we follow his example of faith and generosity.
Grant us the courage and compassion of Edmund as we seek to live lives of love and service.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.
