A Word from The Governor

Chantelle Carey, Chair of Governors, Runnymede St Edward’s Catholic Primary School

 At Runnymede St Edwards school I am very privileged to be a part of the board of Governors and more recently appointed Chair.

I joined the board as a Parent Governor and Safeguarding Link back in 2019 after both my children attended Runnymede. After twenty years of working in the NHS with over fifteen years working within the field of safeguarding, my knowledge and expertise in this area has really allowed me to support school in terms of their safeguarding responsibilities.

Balancing the role of governor with work and family commitments can be difficult at times, however the support of dedicated staff and board members really supports me in this role. Working alongside such dedicated and transparent staff, who have similar morals, values, and practices, promotes an environment where challenge is accepted, and school leaders are held to account.

I have been part of many significant changes within Runnymede but the one that stands out most is the transition from an independent school to a voluntary-aided school. This allowed children within our community to receive the excellent offer of an Edmund Rice Education regardless of their parent/carers ability to fund this. This really aligns with our values that all children should have the same opportunities and experience offered from school to promote a more inclusive society.

The children at Runnymede really do make this school a special place. I am incredibly impressed how they embody the school values ‘inspire, challenge and support through faith’ all that they do.  Children are supported to achieve their best, thrive on challenge and are motivated to learn. Runnymede sets out a strong foundation for children that supports them in acquiring the skills, experiences, enthusiasm, and values for later life.
