Advocacy / ERI Youth Ambassadors

Each of the Senior Schools have selected their Edmund Rice International Youth Ambassadors for the coming year. These young advocacy leaders are doing great work in their schools. One of their projects has been to bring together 3 of the schools to form a one-night only music ensemble ‘Our Common Voice for Justice.’ This group of singers and musicians from St Anselm’s College, St Mary’s College and St Edward’s College have put together five songs to perform at the Asylum Link Winter Fundraising concert on 1^st December.

As part of their advocacy work for in support of people seeking asylum and refugees, the students have combined their efforts and talents to come together to support this marginalised and vulnerable group. Thomas Jones, Youth Ambassador from St Anselm’s College tells us:

This performance is very important to all of us because we are all College ambassadors who are involved in social justice and advocacy work. As a group of Edmund Rice Schools, we use our position and privilege to speak up for those who aren’t always heard. We believe no one should ever be forced to leave their homes, and we want to do all we can to help support those who have been displaced. No one chooses to be an asylum seeker or refugee; we all deserve to have a safe place to live.

Youth Ambassadors Naomi Jones and Niall Martindale, of St Mary’s College are taking part in the Santa Dash on Sunday 3^rd December, to help raise funds for the Edmund Rice Schools Opening Doors Appeal – two new classrooms to be built in a South African township community.
