Welcome to the Brother Kerrigan Library which is so much more than a room full of books. You can find us right in the centre of things here at St Joseph’s College, and rarely is there a seat to spare.
Throughout the year there are many activities, clubs, and events that take place in the library. This month we hosted a Scholastic Book Fair. Before the fair we had created a buzz by asking students to decorate their library books in order to win book vouchers. There were some incredibly creative entries. The enthusiasm from the students for the book fair was wonderful to see, every break and lunchtime they were browsing and buying books. So many in fact that, we earned over £1000 of free books for the school! An amazing achievement!

Another drive we had to expand our collection of books, was during World Book Day last year. There was plenty of friendly competition between the classes when they were asked to donate books in good condition to the library. We hoped to get around 60-100, however, the students blew us all away by donating over 800 books!!! (I think the possibility of winning a class breakfast was a real motivator) We were able to restock our shelves and donate some of the books to local charities.

In this library there is always something going on, with students coming in to revise for tests, do their homework and completing tasks on the computers. Alongside this there is also art and sustainability club, who are currently producing a wonderful mural depicting urban and rural Stoke on Trent and how we can protect it, then the school council also meets in the library planning and discussing ways to improve our school and also sharing
ideas which student representatives take to Stoke City Youth Council,
This is how we use our library. How do you use yours?

O God, we thank you for the life of Edmund Rice.
He opened his heart to Christ present in those oppressed by poverty and injustice.
May we follow his example of faith and generosity.
Grant us the courage and compassion of Edmund as we seek to live lives of love and service.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
