This summer, despite on-going COVID restrictions and repercussions, we are pleased that Edmund Rice Camps have begun to resume, all be it in a reduced format. The first camp took place over the weekend of 10-11th July at St Joseph’s College in Stoke-on-Trent. Due to our inability to recruit new leaders from the sixth form this year, previous leaders stepped up to the plate and ran a fantastic camp for children over the two days. Maybe now, more than ever, the fun and friendship of ER Camp has meant more to youngsters who have struggled due to the pandemic. Mrs Rebecca Gradwell, camp coordinator and St Joseph’s chaplain said that being able to put on camp ‘made her year!’. Well done to her and all involved.
We look forward to hearing how the other camps go over the coming weeks and thank all camp leaders and coordinators who have had to be so creative in the way they have supported camp participants this past year. Let’s hope that Camps return with full force next summer.
O God, we thank you for the life of Edmund Rice.
He opened his heart to Christ present in those oppressed by poverty and injustice.
May we follow his example of faith and generosity.
Grant us the courage and compassion of Edmund as we seek to live lives of love and service.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
