DEPUTY Headspace

I’ve had the privilege to work in St. Aidan’s Catholic Academy, an Edmund Rice school for the past fifteen years. Most recently as Deputy Headteacher.

However, my connection to the Edmund Rice network began long before my employment.

In the 1950s my father attended St. Aidan’s as a young, enthusiastic scholar who had passed his 11+. He still has fond memories today of the inspirational brothers who successfully got him to university, despite his admittedly challenging behaviour!

And then in the 1980s my grandmother began teaching History at the school. As one of the few women to teach in the all-boys secondary school she was renowned for her calm nature no matter the storm.

And so, when I joined the school in 2008, I knew I was walking in the footsteps of a rich history of spirituality, education and community.

Since joining our academy, I have been offered the opportunity to develop my own spirituality even further, to educate thousands of young men and to contribute to this international community through the global network of schools and its many inspirational leaders.

I look forward to the day when one of my own descendants proudly refers to my time in this blessed Edmund Rice community.
