The English Edmund Rice schools are proving to be great leaders in terms of their commitment to Care for the Earth, Eco Justice and Sustainability. I have been working with eco-groups from the Primary Schools, whose knowledge and commitment to caring for their environment is outstanding. It is so heart-warming to see many clear commitments to make caring for the planet become a reality. Many schools are working on their CAFOD Live Simply award; faith-inspired actions inspired by Laudato Si. We have seen our schools spending time outside learning about nature, going on wellbeing walks, rewilding school grounds, installing solar power, and allocating staff to overseeing sustainability in school. We have formed a group of staff in our schools who are leading on eco activities. The aim is to share good practice and encourage progress on our Edmund Rice schools’ Earth Pledge. Each half term the office will share a short bulletin with eco-leads in school on innovations, eco education news, and useful programs they can link in with.

O God, we thank you for the life of Edmund Rice.
He opened his heart to Christ present in those oppressed by poverty and injustice.
May we follow his example of faith and generosity.
Grant us the courage and compassion of Edmund as we seek to live lives of love and service.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
