To harness the enthusiasm and the genuine desire to “make a difference” shown by our camp leaders and mentors — and inspired by similar work in Dublin — we launched a new evening group in early November. This gathering is open to all young people in our network who want to learn more about social justice and respond with compassion in their communities. Invitations were shared through our camps and schools, and the response has been very encouraging.

Ann has facilitated the first few sessions, offering inspiring guest speakers and hands-on volunteering opportunities. Over time, we hope the group will be shaped and driven by the young people themselves. Meetings are held on Monday evenings at Edmund Rice House, with a Zoom option available so that students across all schools and camp regions can take part.

One exciting development emerging from these meetings is “Growing Hearts”, a six-week club for primary schools, led by camp leaders and sixth form students. Grounded in Edmund Rice values, the programme blends reflection, self-discovery, and plenty of fun for the children, while also giving our young leaders a rich opportunity to grow their leadership skills. The pilot will begin at Runnymede St Edward’s in the new year.
