Parr Street Community

The day after Queen Elizabeth died, Br. Chris Brown died while saying his morning prayers,
may he rest in peace.

This was a big shock as Chris was always breezy and cheerful although he had a long-term
fragile heart condition. Michael and I had only lost Eamonn Doyle two years ago, so it was
another dear loss to our small community. Parr Street is due to close soon and Michael has
been busily engaged in disposing of the many items accumulated over 35 years. Charities
and St. Vincent’s church clothes bank have benefitted.

On the 5 November a joint celebration for Edward’s 70 years as a Christian Brother and
Augustine’s 75 years was enjoyed at Woodeaves. The two Brothers were grateful for God’s
graces and the support of their fellow Brothers over a combined 145-year period.

We keep in touch with Bros. Tom Kelly and Matt Fogarty who welcome our company
weekly.

Mr. Tom Power, a brother of Br. Declan Power, died recently, RIP. Tom gave wonderful
support to the mission in Port Sudan, where Declan had laboured for some years. He set up
a charity called Camelot and sent out reconditioned laptops to needy African schools in
Sudan and West Africa.

Edward was unable to attend Links Conference in September but linked up via zoom. There
was an inspiring input from Ellen Teague the intrepid Catholic journalist who is a powerful
member of the Columban Society in many social justice works – especially for the planet
and needy migrants.
