Reflection – Why Care for Creation?

If we pay attention to the wording of the Canticle, Francis says, “All praise to you through Brother Sun …” The praise goes to God not only through Francis himself, but through every created thing. Each part of creation has its own agency; it gives praise to God simply by being and doing what it was created to be. The sun gives light, the moon shines bright and fair, the wind expresses its many moods — and so on.

And so must we. Humanity is called to praise God by becoming and doing what we were created for: to be peacemakers, justice-seekers, reconcilers, gardeners, and lovers.
