St Aidan’s Catholic Academy – Online Presence

Food Bank and Christmas Hampers

St Aidan’s students have begun to make Christmas hampers. They always get very enthusiastic making them up and feel overwhelmed and humbled by the donations that families send in. Boys are gladdened by knowing the positive difference their hampers will make to those in need.

Christmas Card Competition

Boys in the school are this month being given the opportunity to design their very own Christmas cards which could be chosen to be professionally printed and used as the St Aidan's official card for 2021. The winner and runners up will also be entered into a competition to be chosen as the best card in the whole of the Bishop Chadwick Catholic
Education Trust.

St Aidan’s Stewards and Community Engagement

Recently students from St Aidan’s visited the Sunderland Marina to take part in the ‘Wild Oysters Project’ organised by Sunderland City Council. Pupils fund out about wild oysters and learned about how they are 'the secret superheroes of the sea.

They discussed why oysters are good for the environment and biodiversity, held and measured them, and watched how they are cared for in special cages before being released into the sea to their bit for the planet. Some pupils were interviewed for a press release which will be shared
soon.

We have created a group of pupils to become St. Aidan's stewards. Pupils involved have been volunteering to complete a range of environmentally friendly challenges, such as litter picking during break and lunch time! Our stewards are proving to be great examples to the
rest of the community and their efforts show that small changes can have a truly big impact!

St Aidan’s promotes SDG 2 Zero Hunger and SDG 3 Good Health and Wellbeing.

All boys at the school have been provided with a ‘Healthy and Affordable’ recipe booklet from Change 4 Life. It is full of delicious meals that can be made on a budget for the whole family.
The school is urging all families to take time to read it and to encourage their sons to get involved in the preparation and cooking of healthy, family meals that can be prepared on a budget.

Prayer

Prayer of Thanks for Blessed Edmund Rice

O God, we thank you for the life of Edmund Rice.
He opened his heart to Christ present in those oppressed by poverty and injustice.
May we follow his example of faith and generosity.
Grant us the courage and compassion of Edmund as we seek to live lives of love and service.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.
