St. Ambrose Prep. School have elected a new Justice Society who will carry out advocacy work, raise awareness of human rights, and perform charitable work in the local community. Made up of pupils from all year groups from years 1 to 6, Justice Society have started their journey by introducing the school to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) in an assembly marking World Children’s Day.
Meeting once a week, Justice Society have already discussed the difference between our rights and responsibilities as citizens. The children hope to learn more about children’s rights in order to ensure we are a rights respecting school community. Our school has achieved the Bronze Rights Respecting School Award, and we are now embarking on our journey towards the silver award.
Justice Society have begun their charitable and humanitarian work by producing greetings cards with well-wishes for refugees from around the world through the Jesuit Refugee Service, and are currently appealing for donations of food and other essentials to donate to the Salford Edmund Rice Volunteers (SERV) in order to provide local refugees and asylum seekers with supplies this winter.
We’re excited about the opportunities 2024 will bring, and will continue raising the profile of human rights and advocacy work with our friends, families, and community.
O God, we thank you for the life of Edmund Rice.
He opened his heart to Christ present in those oppressed by poverty and injustice.
May we follow his example of faith and generosity.
Grant us the courage and compassion of Edmund as we seek to live lives of love and service.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
