St Ambrose Preparatory School

During the season of Lent at Saint Ambrose Preparatory School, we have run a daily Rosary and Prayer group to help the children understand, at a deeper level, the events of the Passion of Christ and to help them encounter God in a meaningful way.

The children have read many Gospel accounts about when Jesus stood up for what was right, even when others around him weren’t and have reflected on how this teaches us to stand up for what we know is right in our own lives. We made promises to do just that in our school community and beyond during the Lenten season and beyond.

Following hearing the Word of God, the children use Ignatian Examen techniques and complete activities at prayer stations to engage deeply with the gospel messages so each child can be inspired to be an advocate for change in their world.

Prep 4 have been preparing for the Edmund Rice Award by discussing the Eight Essentials and how we can embody Edmund’s values in our everyday lives. Ann Nichols has very kindly been visiting us to lead sessions examining justice and advocacy, and what we can do to truly advocate for change.

Prep 4 have discussed human rights and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and have learnt more about why some people may not have equal access to their rights. In the last session, we learnt about the difficult decisions refugees are faced with when leaving their homes, and pupils chose which items they would pack into a small backpack if they were faced with the same tough choice.
