St Ambrose Preparatory School

We have elected our new Justice Society members, who range from Year 1 to Prep 4 (Year 6). The children have started by learning more about human rights and have sorted ‘wants’ and ‘needs’ cards to understand the difference between things that we need to keep us safe and healthy, and things that we would like but aren’t essential. The children’s aims for the year are to raise awareness of human rights in our community, and to help those in need.

 As an introduction to their history topic about World War I and II, Prep 4 visited The Imperial War Museum in Manchester. Having travelled there by tram, they enjoyed learning all about life in the trenches, rationing, and the important role women played in the war. At the end of the visit, the children sang ‘In Flanders Fields’ in front of 1,000s of poppies.

On Monday 11^th November, Prep 4 then delivered a thoughtful Remembrance Day assembly to the rest of the school. They wrote emotional prayers and poems to commemorate the lives of those soldiers who gave their lives for us, and we prayed for all those still involved in conflict today. At 11 o’clock, the whole school observed a two-minute silence which commenced with a very moving performance of “The Last Post” by Prep 3 pupil, Rupert. In the afternoon, Prep 4 visited the nearby war memorial where they reflected upon the lives of local people who have died in battle. Clay poppies they had made, were laid on the memorial stone.
