St Edward’s College

Here at St Edward’s, we have just come to the end of our season of Cathedral services.  Every pupil has celebrated at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King, Liverpool.  On 10^th October 120 of our year 8 pupils made a personal commitment to Christ by receiving the sacrament of Confirmation.  This was closely followed by the St Edward’s day Mass on 13 October which was attended by all key stage 3 pupils and their parents. The highlight of the Mass was the singing: Year 7 pupils led the 2.500 strong congregation in song by singing Rejoice in the Lord Always (Rathbone), and our choristers sang alongside visiting choirs from Cologne and Stonyhurst School, creating a powerful musical experience that truly filled the Cathedral. Officiated by Archbishop Malcolm this was an extraordinarily uplifting service.

Years 10 and 11 paid their respects to those who died in war in the Cathedral on Remembrance Sunday, whilst the senior choir had the honour of performing in the annual Remembrance Service at St George’s Hall. This year’s service marked 80 years since the D-Day Landings and the Battle of Arnhem—powerful reminders of the courage and sacrifice of those who served.

Most recently years 12 and 13 attended the Advent sequence: a prayerful sequence of music and readings to prepare us for the coming of Christ.  The readings were led by our senior students.  We are now looking forward to our carol service on the last day of term.

In late November, sixty Sixth Form students took part in a Woodland Walk along the Milkankovitch Trail, which passes through our school grounds. The College and Runnymede are fortunate to be situated in beautiful grounds with well-established, varied woodland. Only 15% of North Liverpool is now green space, so it was a fantastic wellbeing opportunity for our Year 12-13 students to get out and about in the outdoors, a time for wellbeing and to appreciate the nature surrounding us.
