St Joseph’s College – Online Presence

St Joseph’s College art department collaborated on a poppy display this term, making ceramic, plastic and wire poppy sculptures in honour of Remembrance Day. Part of the process for forming the installation art was to allow the students the opportunity to place their own poppies, thereby taking ownership of the creative process from beginning to end.

General RE at St Joseph’s College

As part of our students’ entitlement to key stage five Religious Education, the RE department here at St. Joseph’s College teach a human rights and social justice course to Year 12 and help the students to deliver a presentation to members of their year group. As part of this, they have to champion the work of a charity of their choice and explain why St Joseph’s as a school should support this charity. In order to make it possible for some real and concrete good to come out of that process we asked all students to make a contribution to a pot of money which would be donated to the chosen charity of the winning presentation. The course culminated with a presentation day back in June earlier this year and the winning group chose the charity, The Survivors Trust to champion and so it gave me great pleasure to send a cheque for the amount that students raised.

BBC’s ‘Any Questions?’ is broadcast from the College

One of the BBC’s flagship political programmes was broadcast from St Joseph’s College in Stoke-on-Trent school on 19^th November.

St Joseph’s hosted BBC Radio 4’s Any Questions? in which host Chris Mason presented political debate and discussion with a panel which includes Shabana Mahmood MP, comedian Geoff Norcott and Frances O’Grady of the TUC.

Although some tickets were reserved for local political parties, more than 150 people signed up to be in the socially distant audience and have their questions put to the panel.
