St Joseph’s Preparatory School

It has been lovely to hopefully getting back to some kind of normality this term, which has
allowed for us at St Joseph’s Prep to have a number of educational trips. These have
included at trip to the farm for EYFS and PP1, Black Country Living Museum for P3 and 4 and
P5 and 6 to Chester Zoo.

In February, the children spent a week of timetable to focus on PSHCE activities. We
welcomed a number of visitors into school ranging from Stagecoach, for acting, Deb who
came in and taught Yoga to the while school, Bee active, Ju Jitsu and a former parent, who
came in to talk to EYFS and Pre-Prep about how to look after their teeth. The children,
during this week were able to look at a wide range of aspects of PSHCE including, Children’s
right and in particularly the right to food, and what is healthy food along with Fairtrade, to
Global Citizenship, Cafod and the environment. We have also held a yellow and blue clothes
day in support of Ukraine and collections of items to send.

One of the high lights of the term has to be the range of costumes which were worn on
World Book Day, these included, Paddington Bear, Miss (Mr) Trunchbull, Harry Potter,
Kipper, Horrid Henry and many, many more. The effort put into this day was wonderful
from everyone including the teachers.

On Friday the 18 th of March, we were able as a whole school celebrate St Joseph’s Day Mass,
a day early, at St Teresa’s Church with Father Michael. This was the first time that everyone
from PP1 up to P6 were in attendance together.

During Lent, the classes are taking it in turns to raise money with their Lenten Activities.
These range from guess the name of the teddy, selling homemade cakes to penalty
shootouts. The children always enjoy these and give generously throughout.
At St Joseph’s we have taken inspiration from a fellow school and have looked at ways to
encourage our children to be more like Edmund Rice and walk in his footsteps. In Prep 6,
Aleksandar was recently awarded our first Edmund Rice Certificate, for showing kindness,
and giving some of his money to another who had lost their own. Hopefully this will now
encourage others to look at what they do and how they too can influence and help just as
Edmund Rice did.
As we move towards the Easter break, we remember the sacrifice that Jesus made for us all
and be grateful for what he has done for us. A quote from John 3 Verse 16,
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever
believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Clean-up for the Planet!
Inspired by the work done towards Cop 26 and with the EREBB international schools project,
children at St Joseph’s Preparatory school have been looking a little closer to home to help
improve the local area. We like being GREEN at school but not quite as green as our road
sign. However, after a busy morning the sign was looking spick and span and the road was a
lot cleaner with 3 bags of rubbish collected for sorting and recycling. The eco team have
now proposed this as a regular monthly activity to help keep our community clean.
