Edmund Rice England - Presence . Compassion . Liberation

St Mary’s College

The Edmund Rice International Group at St Mary’s College is fully engaged with the Edmund Rice Network Advent Campaign, ‘Opening Doors’ which is raising awareness and funds for vulnerable girls and young women in West Africa. Here members of the group are wearing their Santa hats, ready to complete the Santa Dash in Liverpool, for which there are being sponsored to raise funds for Opening Doors. Last year’s ERI group raised over £2,000 in support of the Edmund Rice Advent ‘Opening Doors’ campaign which built two pre-school classrooms in South Africa.

To celebrate World Kindness Day, St Mary’s College encouraged participation online, with their social media followers, to share what kindness means to them. They posted by some wonderful messages from their own Year 7 pupils, who had been asked ‘What does kindness mean to you?’

The College supported #GreenCareersWeek in November, when during their form time, Middle School pupils learned about different green careers and worked together to think about why Green Careers Week is so important and shared their top sustainability tips.

At St Mary’s, as their motto proclaims, they show their faith by the way they live, love and learn. As part of their work on the Edmund Rice Eight Essentials ‘to develop the whole person’, their pupils – and in particular, Sixth Formers – are given many opportunities for service in the wider community in the Outreach program. Some of the Sixth Formers have chosen to volunteer at their prep school, by reading to the children, teaching them table tennis, and more. Giving up their time to help others has been a very enjoyable and rewarding experience for all involved. Other students have volunteered their time at Nazareth House Care Home and supported the Year 7s to settle in at the College.

We are extremely proud of Amelia  in Year 7, who used her half-term break to make and sell bracelets, raising over £200 for Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice Liverpool!

Pictured is the amazing Amelia, personally delivering her donation to Zoe’s Place.

We are so impressed and proud of Amelia’s creativity, compassion and kindness. Truly inspiring – well done Amelia!

Prayer

Prayer of Thanks for Blessed Edmund Rice

O God, we thank you for the life of Edmund Rice.
He opened his heart to Christ present in those oppressed by poverty and injustice.
May we follow his example of faith and generosity.
Grant us the courage and compassion of Edmund as we seek to live lives of love and service.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.
