St Mary’s College

Our CAFOD Christmas collection final total was some £1543. We purchased two community
wells.

This term we participated in the Green Hearts campaign as sign-posted by the Edmund Rice
Network – we made a table display and had a ‘cookie and cakes party’ to raise
awareness!

Ukraine – we held a raffle and the donations raised £625 for the Caritas Ukraine appeal. We
raffled off 4 hospitality tickets at Goodison and a £250 Fortnum and Mason hamper.
Ukraine donations collection – We were made aware of a local Polish charity (Polskie) that
was in need for donations for refugees fleeing Ukraine and arriving in Poland. They were
driving donations on the Saturday of the week they found out and thus a quick turnaround
was needed to get supplies there. In just a few days, they were overwhelmed with
donations and it took Mr Lee four trips in his car to drop everything off!
Thank you St. Mary's for rising to the challenge as always and for the generosity and
compassion shown. Thanks and well done to Mr Lee and the ERI group for
organising the appeal.

Back to the Philharmonic

We were delighted to be back at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall for our Festival of Music, a
celebration of the exceptional musical talents of the pupils of St. Mary’s College &
Preparatory School.

The concert featured over 250 musicians from a range of different musical ensembles,
including the College’s award-winning Symphony Orchestra, Symphonic Wind Band and
Chamber Choir as well as the Prep Concert Choir and a number of gifted soloists.

The audience were taken on a musical journey from the mountains of Austria to the forests
of South America as our talented young musicians performed pieces from a wide range of
styles and genres from around the world.

Highlights included The Blue Danube and the Overture to Die Fledermaus by J. Strauss,
Holst's ‘Mars’ from The Planets suite, Mozart’s 25th Symphony, and music for the stage and
screen by Morricone and Schönberg.

The evening was conducted by Director of Music Andrew Byers, assisted by Colin Johnston
and Joanne Booth, and our compère was Roger Phillips.

Thanks to everyone who attended and a huge well done to our talented musicians; thank
you for giving us an unforgettable evening of music from around the world.
It was great to be back at the Phil!
