St Timothy’s Community

Br Eamonn O’Brien has joined St Timothy’s community. For the past 23 years Eamonn has
been living on his own while working as a counsellor with John Moore university, and
latterly as a free-lance counsellor/hypnotherapist. He intends to continue the same work
with individual clients and also, perhaps, hold workshops in the parish meeting room.

Unfortunately, before the pandemic lost its force, some of the community took ill with
Covid, including David, Christy and Dominic. Fergus and Eamonn did not catch the virus.
8 September 2022. The nation was shocked to hear of the death of HM the Queen in
Balmoral, Scotland. Followed by 10 days of national mourning.

On 10 September, we were again shocked by the sudden death of Br Chris Brown. His body
was discovered by Edward in Parr Street; Mike was on the Camino at the time but returned
home immediately on hearing the news. There was a delay in the funeral proceedings
because of a post mortem. The funeral eventually took place in St Anne’s church on 13
October. There were many family, friends, Brothers and former brothers present. Dominic
gave the eulogy during the requiem before the cremation. At the request of the family,
Chris’ ashes were shared.

David and Dominic hosted the Regulars (a group of religious priests and brothers in
Liverpool) in St Clare, St Edward’s College. They also attended a Day for Religious in
Ormskirk hosted by the Vicar for Religious.

We celebrated Christy’s 92 nd birthday by going out for a meal.

Br Pat Madigan spent a week with us, regaling us with stories in his own inimitable way.
Br Ray Vercuysse also visited us. Ray is a brother from the N American Province who is on
sabbatical and working in Mount Sion Waterford. He visited all the communities, some of
the schools, Liverpool sites and met the ERO personnel.

Callum Roberts, newly appointed lay chaplain in St Edward’s College, had the evening meal
with the community. Callum is passionate about his job of evangelisation among students.
He is also keen to promote devotion to Blessed Edmund Rice.

Season of Creation (SOC)
SOC was celebrated in our local parish with three different events:

The Walk of Creation was organised by the parish Laudato Si group  in the local Croxteth
Park. Those of us present truly enjoyed the conversations, the reflections and appreciation
of God’s wonderful gifts at our door steps. We were blessed with a beautiful morning.
The second event was the celebration of an outdoor Mass of Creation. It was a great
celebration of young and old, with lots of music, song  and symbols relevant for the
occasion. The homily was given by the newly ordained deacon. The celebration concluded
with a much appreciated hot cup of tea and biscuits.

The third event was the visit of two refugees from Asylum Link Merseyside, one from
Ukraine and the other from Sudan. They spoke at all Masses at the weekend. They spoke of
personal, traumatic experiences in their respective countries and shared also their rather
precarious journeys to the UK . The parishioners contributed £950 towards the daily running
of Asylum Link Merseyside as a response.
