St Anselm’s College
John Greaves, Chair of Governors at St. Anselm’s College, ended his tenure as a governor at the College on 21st March 2024.
John has been a governor for 14 years since being elected as a Parent Governor in 2014. he became Vice Chair and then was elected Chair of Governors in 2017. John led the Board through challenging significant membership changes and the College through financial and inspection challenges and leaves with the College strong, financially sound, and heavily oversubscribed. and with its extra-curricular life flourishing. John introduced a new professionalism into governance and streamlined the sub-committee system along business lines.
John, a native Yorkshireman, moved to Wirral from Leeds in 1992. His initial Anselmian experience came as a player for Old Anselmians RUFC for ten years. All three of his sons attended the College in the 2010s and he was a familiar figure on the rugby touchline and at musical events and dinners.
John has been unstinting in his support for the Edmund Rice and extra-curricular life of the College and typically stayed on as Chairman long after his initial intention to retire! He is a true Anselmian.
Simon Duggan, Headteacher
O God, we thank you for the life of Edmund Rice.
He opened his heart to Christ present in those oppressed by poverty and injustice.
May we follow his example of faith and generosity.
Grant us the courage and compassion of Edmund as we seek to live lives of love and service.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
